On Wednesday March 23, MLA Jordan Sturdy will be speaking to the BC Liberal Governments Climate Change Leadership Plan.  Jordan is a long time Pemberton resident, a Past Mayor of Pemberton and a local farmer.  As MLA, Jordan was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Energy Literacy and the Environment to the Minister of Environment, is a member of the Cabinet Committee for Environment and Land Use, and serves as Chair of the Climate Leadership Team, working with members from non-governmental organizations, academia, industry, communities and First Nations to redefine B.C.’s low-carbon future.

Climate change is an undeniable reality in 2016.  We see it in the frequency and severity of storm events, in the melting of the icecaps and in the low fill rates of our lakes and rivers during the dry seasons.  With such strong evidence of climate change right outside our doors in Pemberton, a strong action plan to mitigate our impact on the planet is imperative.

The current Provincial Government has created an action plan through the Climate Leadership Team – a committee with members from non-governmental organizations, academia, industry, communities and First Nations – and they are seeking public feedback on their Plan until March 25, 2016.  Now is the time to read the Plan and determine if you believe the actions are strong enough, if the deliverables are achievable, and if you feel you want to put resources towards achieving the goals in the Plan.

MLA Jordan Sturdy will be speaking about this Plan (click here to read it) on March 23 at 7:15am at the Pemberton Community Center.  Come out and talk directly to the Chair of the Committee about your thoughts and concerns regarding the Plan.
